Mr. Lawrence Mutsunge Nazare is the Group Managing Director of Continental Reinsurance Holdings, a role he assumed in late 2024. He previously served as Group Managing Director of Continental Reinsurance Plc from 2021, having first joined the company in 2010 as Group Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer.
With over 30 years’ experience in the insurance industry, Mr. Nazare has played a pivotal role in shaping the sector across Africa. Before joining Continental Re, he held senior leadership positions in Zimbabwe, including Managing Director of Intermarket Reinsurance and earlier roles with Zimbabwe Reinsurance Corporation.
He has also contributed to the industry through various leadership positions, notably as Chairman of the Organization of Eastern and Southern African Insurers (OESAI) from 2012 to 2015; Chairman of the Zimbabwe Association of Reinsurance Offices (2001–2004); Chairman of the Insurance Council of Zimbabwe (2005–2008); and as a long-serving Executive Committee and Board Member of the East & Southern African Insurers & Reinsurers (2002–2018). He is also a member of the Institute of Directors, Nigeria.
Mr. Nazare holds a Bachelor of Law (Hons) degree and a post-graduate Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Zimbabwe and is an admitted Legal Practitioner. He is an Associate in Reinsurance of the Insurance Institute of America and an Associate of the Insurance Institute of South Africa.

Dr Grace Muradzikwa is a distinguished insurance executive with over 40 years of experience in the insurance sector.
She was part of the co-founding team that established the Zimbabwe Reinsurance Corporation in 1984, supported by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD). She later made history as the first Black woman to lead and list a publicly traded company, serving as CEO of NicozDiamond until her departure in February 2019.
In June 2019, she was appointed Commissioner of Insurance, Pension, and Provident Funds, overseeing the regulation and supervision of Zimbabwe’s insurance and pensions industry—a role she currently holds.
Dr Muradzikwa has received numerous accolades, including the CEO Global Regional Titans Award (2017) and recognition as one of the Top 50 Women in Insurance in Africa (2022) at the AIO Conference in Kenya.
She has served on several boards of local, regional, and international institutions.
She currently serves as Executive Committee Member of the International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS), representing Sub-Saharan Africa, and Vice Chairperson of the Governance Council of the Committee of Insurance, Securities, and Non-Banking Financial Authorities (CISNA) in SADC. She is also a Board Member at ZEP-RE.

Dr. Webster Twaambo, Jr. is the Managing Director of Finsbury Reinsurance, an international reinsurance company licensed by the Pensions and Insurance Authority, Zambia.
Webster is a distinguished leader with an inspiring track record of over 20 years in the (re)insurance sector, holding several senior roles. He has consistently demonstrated exceptional visionary and strategic acumen, as well as a passion for driving innovation.
Webster is a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute (FCII) and holds a Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA) from Heriot-Watt University. He also holds a Master’s degree in Strategy and another Master’s in Business Administration. Furthermore, Webster holds a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Finance with Honours from the University of Zambia (UNZA), as well as several other insurance qualifications.
Dr. Twaambo is a writer, speaker, and philanthropist. He has penned three books. His second edition won the 2018 Best Book on Insurance by the Africa Insurance Organisation.

Born in 1976, Jean-Alain Francis discovered the world of insurance and reinsurance back in 1994, and what began as a career soon became a true passion (and occasionally, a source of anecdotes along the way). Over the years, his work has taken him from Mauritius to Africa and Europe, shaping a journey he still describes as both rewarding and enjoyable. He spent a substantial part of his career at Munich Re, holding various positions, before going on to lead the Corporate Division at Swan General Ltd. Since 2018, he has brought his experience to EllGeo Re, where he was appointed CEO in 2020.
A Chartered Insurance Broker (FCII, UK) and MBA graduate from Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, Jean-Alain believes learning never really stops. For him, professional growth goes hand in hand with personal development, and both are best achieved when knowledge is shared. At EllGeo Re, his ambition is to help the company reach new heights, particularly across Africa, where he sees immense opportunity. He also serves as an Independent Non-Executive Director of the Credit Guarantee Insurance Co. Ltd, is a member of the Management Board of the Organisation of Eastern and Southern African Insurers (OESAI), and actively contributes to industry discussions across the continent.

Dr. Phocas Nyandwi has over 25 years of experience in the Insurance and Reinsurance Industry. He started his career in direct insurance in Burundi, where he worked for over 10 years in various managerial positions in Non-Life and Life Insurance. In 2008, he joined Kenya Reinsurance Corporation (Kenya Re) as a Non-Life underwriter in charge of Francophone markets. He joined Africa Re in 2010 in the Nairobi Regional Office where he worked for 9 years, before being appointed as Director Central Operations and Special Risks in Head Office (Lagos, Nigeria) in 2019. After 5 years in this position, he was recently appointed as Regional Director of the Nairobi Regional Office from 01 July 2024.

Dr. Alhaj Kaddunabbi Ibrahim Lubega est membre et Professionnel Certifié de l'Institut Australien et Néo-Zélandais de l'Assurance et de la Finance (ANZIIF), avec plus de 20 ans d'expérience pratique dans les opérations financières, la réglementation et la supervision. Il se passionne pour la bonne gouvernance, l'élaboration de politiques, l'établissement de normes et le renforcement des capacités. Il est actuellement Chef de la Direction de l'Autorité de Réglementation des Assurances de l'Ouganda (IRA) et Président de l'Association des Contrôleurs d'Assurance de l'Afrique de l'Est (EAISA).
Alhaj Kaddunabbi est également l'Ancien Président de l'Organisation des Assurances Africaines (OAA), pour la saison 2017/18. Il siège dans plusieurs Conseils d'Administration d'entités privées et publiques, conformément à sa vocation de mettre en place des systèmes de gouvernance qui lui survivent.
En tant que Directeur Général,Alhaj Kaddunabbi a présidé à plusieurs réformes (Juridique et Réglementaire) visant à renforcer le rôle de surveillance de l'Autorité. Il s'agit notamment de la révision de la Loi sur les assurances afin de prévoir une approche de surveillance plus sensible au risque, de la réglementation de la bancassurance qui établit un cadre pour les banques commerciales pour la vente d'assurance, du projet de réglementation de la gouvernance d'entreprise, de la conduite sur le marché, de la réglementation prudentielle, de la réglementation des intermédiaires, entre autres. Il a mis en place des structures et des systèmes pour assurer l'exécution adéquate du mandat de surveillance de l'Autorité, y compris l'amélioration des compétences du personnel pour répondre aux défis réglementaires.
Au niveau sectoriel, sous sa direction, le secteur a connu une croissance exponentielle en termes de primes brutes émises, passant de 240 milliards d'UGX en 2010 à 1,44 billion d'UGX en 2022.
Sa compréhension des questions plus larges du secteur financier l'a poussé à initier et à poursuivre des protocoles d'entente avec différents Régulateurs du secteur financier dans son pays et à l'étranger, afin d'assurer une coopération et une gestion adéquates de tout risque systémique susceptible de menacer la stabilité du secteur et de l'économie dans son ensemble.
Avant d'occuper son poste actuel, Alhaj Kaddunabbi a été Législateur au Parlement de la République d'Ouganda pendant 10 ans, où il a présidé la Commission Parlementaire de l'Économie Nationale et le Conseil d'Administration du Régime de Retraite Parlementaire. Il a également été membre Exécutif de l'Union Parlementaire de l'Organisation de la Conférence islamique.

Attilio Tornetta is the Head of MEA Treaty and Regional Retro at Howden Re, where he leads the firm’s treaty reinsurance and retrocession strategy across the Middle East and Africa. With nearly 20 years of experience in the insurance and reinsurance industry, Attilio has held senior roles at major global firms, including Swiss Re, Aspen Re, and QBE, where he served as Head of Africa. Based in Dubai, he has developed deep expertise in emerging markets, particularly Africa, building a strong understanding of the region’s unique reinsurance dynamics and challenges.
In his role at Howden, Attilio is responsible for shaping and executing the strategy, growth, and performance of Howden Re’s reinsurance business across the Middle East and Africa. With a specific focus on treaty and specialty lines, he leads the development of tailored solutions for complex programs, drawing on his strong analytical, risk management, and project planning skills. He has a proven track record of driving business growth, managing high-performing teams, and consistently exceeding market expectations.
A civil engineer by training, Attilio also holds an MBA from MIP School of Management, Polytechnic of Milan, which allows him to combine technical insight with business acumen. His background in engineering, project management, and risk analysis positions him to address the diverse and evolving needs of clients across the region, ensuring that Howden Re delivers sustainable and innovative solutions while strengthening its position in the treaty reinsurance market.

Sean started in the insurance industry in 1991 as a broker at Johnsons and Higgins. He then moved to Everest Re in 1994 and subsequently built a book of Treaty business in Africa and Home Foreign (US Companies with overseas exposures), growing the book from $2mn to $60m. He also managed Everest Re’s international Fac book, growing that from $2.5mn to 40mn.

Souvik hails from India and has spent over 37 years in the insurance industry across Asia and Africa. He started his career with New India Assurance Co., India’s largest non-life insurer, and held important positions in India and Japan, before moving to Africa in 2007 with African Reinsurance Corporation as Underwriter. He then moved to African Trade Insurance (now ATIDI) marketing Trade Credit and Surety Bonds, before being appointed Managing Director at the Nairobi Subsidiary of Continental Reinsurance.
Upon retirement from Continental Reinsurance, he has relocated to India and is now with J.B. Boda Insurance and Reinsurance Brokers Pvt. Ltd. as Head-Technical.

Dr. Baghayo A. Saqware is a Commissioner of Insurance and Chief Executive Officer of Tanzania Insurance Regulatory Authority (TIRA) from 2017-2019 and 2022 to date.
Dr. Saqware started his career as compliance officer with National Social Security Fund (NSSF) and later he joined Institute of Finance Management and Tanzania Institute of Accountancy (TIA) as a lecturer in Insurance, Social Protection and Risk Management subjects for the past 19 years.
Prior to joining TIRA as a Commissioner of Insurance, he has held number management positions; he was Dean of Faculty of Insurance and Social Protection at the Institute of Finance Management (IFM), Ministerial Health Insurance Coordinator at the Ministry of Health (MoH) and Secretary to Insurance and Social Protection Technical Team that advices Bank of Tanzania on Insurance and Social Protection related matters.
Dr. Saqware has extensive experience in Leadership, Research and Consultancies at varies levels. He serves in various Board of Directors, He was a Chairman of Finance and Operation Committee of the National Health Insurance Fund for 6 years and Board Member of Occupational Safety and Health Authority (OSHA) and Africa College of Insurance and Social Protection (ACISP). Saqware currently serve as a Member of Governing Council (GoC) of CISNA.
